Breast Lift in Los Angeles, CA
Sagging breasts can be the results of aging, weight change, pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you have sagging breasts or are unhappy with the position of your breasts, a mastopexy may be right for you. Michael Schwartz, M.D., is a board-certified facial plastic surgeon and diplomate of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery that offers breast lifts to women who live in and around Los Angeles, Pasadena and the surrounding communities of California.
What is a Breast Lift?
A breast lift, or mastopexy, lifts the breasts, repositions the nipple areolar complex and removes excess skin in order to lift the breast off the chest wall. The mastopexy repositions the underlying breast tissue and repositions the nipple areolar complex higher on the breast mound to give a more attractive appearance, while also restoring symmetry.
The Mastopexy (Breast Lift) Procedure
Sagging and deflation of the breasts can occur with aging and pregnancy, or can be present from early development of the breasts. Lifting of the breast repositions the nipple areolar complex (NAC) that may have descended to the lower pole or bottom of the breast to a more ideal location at the most projected point of the breast mound. Lifting also tucks in the excess tissue of the lower pole of the breast, giving a more pleasing rounded shape of the lower breast. Dr. Schwartz uses a vertical mastopexy pattern, which is similar to a keyhole and results in a scar that resembles a lollipop, with a circle around the areola and a straight line down to the inframammary fold. Dr. Schwartz uses meticulous closure techniques identical to what he uses for facelift closure, rendering these scars as unnoticeable as possible.
Breast Lift with Augmentation
A lift will elevate the breast off the chest and resolve NAC placement issues but will not provide upper pole fullness or an increase in overall size of the breasts. While many surgeons perform lifting and augmentation as separate operations, Dr. Schwartz is experienced in combining the lift and augmentation in one operation and is able to make decisions with the patient regarding implant size and breast shape to avoid two operations.
Recovery Following a Breast Lift
Recovery after a breast lift is similar to recovery from any breast enhancement procedure. We recommend taking a week off from work following the procedure and arranging transportation to and from your appointments.
Am I A Good Candidate for a Breast Lift?
If you are unhappy with the position of your natural breasts, a breast lift might be right for you. The breast lift is a safe, effective way to restore youthfulness in the breasts for many women. If you’re considering a breast lift, schedule a consultation so we can talk about your candidacy on a personal level.
