Male Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Male blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery for men, is an important and vital procedure for improving the appearance of the eyes. For those men who live in and around Los Angeles, Pasadena and the surrounding communities of California, Michael S. Schwartz, M.D. is the board-certified facial plastic surgeon who more and more men are turning to for eyelid surgery, in large part because he offers impressive blepharoplasty results for patients who demand the very best.

What is Male Blepharoplasty or Eyelid Surgery for Men?

Your eyelids are the window frame to the soul, which means they frame your most vital defining feature, your eyes. Male blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery for men, is an increasingly popular plastic surgery procedure for forward thinking men. More and more men are having this procedure done every year. For a variety of reasons the area around the eyes is among the very first to show signs of aging. Men are increasingly aware that the development of folds, wrinkles and sagging skin around the eyes will inevitably cause them to look much older than they might actually feel. With Dr. Schwartz, eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty can be used to help to reverse some signs of aging in the region surrounding the eyes by eliminating excess skin and fatty tissue around the upper and lower eyelids and adjoining areas so you can look your youthful best.

Benefits of Eyelid Surgery for Men

If your eyes look tired no matter how vital you feel, others can have a tendency to regard you as less than youthful. This can affect your sense of self-confidence and self-esteem. Fortunately, there is a solution. With eyelid surgery, Dr. Schwartz can make you look more alert, younger and less tired by skillfully removing layers of excess skin around the eyes that can convey an old and tired look to your face. Dr. Schwartz is an expert on eyelid surgery and can effectively correct sagging skin in the upper and lower eyelids, the brows and surrounding areas. If you have puffiness under the eyes, this is fat that is pooching out from the orbit, and can be trimmed to give you a rested and more youthful appearance. Dark circles are improved by treating the lower eyelids, making you look more rested, alert and youthful.

How is Eyelid Surgery for Med Different than for Women?

You may notice men who have had their eyelids done and look unnatural, surprised, or just unusual. This is because many surgeons approach male and female blepharoplasty the same, which is a mistake. In women, Dr. Schwartz has designed an upper lid skin removal pattern to include the loose skin at the outside of the eye area in a desirable upsweep pattern, removing as much skin as possible so the patient can still easily close her eyes. If this is done in men, it feminizes the male upper lid, giving an unnatural or operated and feminized appearance. There are celebrities and well-known people who have had this done. Dr. Schwartz has developed a specific pattern for skin removal in men’s upper lids, to give a natural, masculine and unoperated look, yet still youthful and rested.

Who is a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery For Men?

Do you feel troubled by the appearance of your eyes, due to aging, weight related factors, genetically determined features that you want to correct, or any other aesthetic or cosmetic issues relating to the eyes? The best candidates for eyelid surgery are men who enjoy overall good health and have no pre-existing eye conditions or allergies that would impair healing. While treatment typically is performed on men aged 35 years or older, depending upon the circumstances, eyelid surgery may be performed on men of any age when required. Contact us now to set up your consultation with Dr. Schwartz, an expert on facial plastic surgery in men and someone who can give you expert recommendations and guidance in terms of whether or not you are a good candidate for eyelid surgery.

How Is Eyelid Surgery Performed?

Eyelid surgery can be done with light sedation and local anesthesia or full IV sedation. In the preop area Dr. Schwartz will draw precise surgical markings on your eyelids. Once in the operating room, whether awake or asleep, he will inject a buffered anesthetic solution that is not painful, rendering the eyeids numb. The excess skin in the upper lid is removed, and the skin edges are closed in the new pattern. Often a small amount of fat in the inside of the upper lid is removed to reduce puffiness there. The lower lid fat is removed through a transconjunctival approach inside the lid, with no scar on the outer lower lid. This reduces the puffiness in the lower lids. In some cases, Dr. Schwartz will remove a smalll pinch of skin just under the lashes, or perform a tightening procedure of the lower lid if it is too loose. Dr. Schwartz’s expertise and experience is what enables him to minimize complications in the lower lid such as scleral show or pulling down or rounding of the lower lid. Following surgery, you will use ice packs for the rest of the day at home. Eyelid surgery is not painful, and patients can go out the next day with sunglasses to hide some swelling and bruising that occurs. Patients look presentable in 1-2 weeks though cannot exercise for 4 weeks following the procedure. This relatively brief procedure requires the utmost skill, which is why you should choose the best qualified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Schwartz. Contact us now to set up your male eyelid surgery consultation. Men’s eyebrows and eyelids differ in shape and contour from those of women, and maintaining a more masculine appearance to the eyes requires specific training, experience and aesthetic judgement, which is why more and more men are turning to Dr. Schwartz because he has been performing these delicate eyelid surgeries on male patients for many years with excellent results.
