What is Plastic Surgery and Cosmetic Surgery?
Plastic surgery involves the surgical repair and enhancement of a person’s body, and often involves reconstruction. Although they’re slightly different, plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery are often used interchangeably. While cosmetic surgery is focused primarily on enhancing a person’s appearance, symmetry, aesthetic appeal, and proportion is the underlying philosophy of each surgical specialty. Dr. Schwartz has expertise in both facial plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery and applies these principles to each and every patient he treats.
Local, general, or topical anesthetics are used in most plastic and cosmetic procedures, but most of the surgical procedures Dr. Schwartz performs are considered outpatient.

Benefits of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery
The benefits of plastic surgery are numerous and continue to grow with advancements in the medical cosmetic industry. Cosmetic surgery can contour the face and body, remove stubborn areas of fat, and transform body imperfections that non-surgical solutions failed to correct. Cosmetic surgery is a subspecialty of plastic surgery and is focused on improving a person’s appearance. Dr. Schwartz applies the principles of reconstruction and his extensive cosmetic surgery training to each patient in order to achieve their goals with a natural and unoperated result.
Cosmetic procedures can also provide a boost in the self-esteem and confidence of most patients, which leads to improved well-being. Nevertheless, deciding to undergo plastic or cosmetic procedures is a highly personal decision, and each patient will have their own unique reasoning.
Is Cosmetic Surgery Right for Me?
Advancements in technology have made cosmetic surgery safer and more accessible to a larger demographic of people. However, scheduling a one-to-one consultation with Dr. Schwartz is the best way to determine if cosmetic surgery is right for you. Dr. Schwartz will go over the details and the pros and cons of your desired procedure to help you determine the answer to this question.
Elements of a Cosmetic Surgery Procedure
Many procedures can be done with local anesthesia and light sedation. Depending on the type of procedure you’re considering, you may require total IV sedation or general anesthesia for surgery. Dr. Schwartz will explain the options and go over the details of your surgery during your consultation.
How Long is the Recovery After Cosmetic Surgery?
Most patients have minimal pain after cosmetic procedures, as Dr. Schwartz uses advanced tumescent anesthesia and extensive local anesthesia for all procedures. Most patients are ambulatory on the day of surgery and should count on a few days to a few weeks of downtime depending on the surgery each is having. The recovery will be explained in detail during the consultation and again prior to surgery.
