What is Laser Tattoo Removal?
Dr. Schwartz is the first in the San Gabriel Valley to offer the newest laser technology Picosure laser for tattoo removal. Laser tattoo removal is a newer procedure to get rid of tattoos with laser therapy. Dr. Schwartz uses the Picosure® system which reduces the number of treatments as other traditional forms of laser treatments. Lasers send quick pulses of light to the tattooed area at which point the ink absorbs the light to break down the pigment. The area with the tattoo then begins to heal and white blood cells eliminate inked pigment. Depending on the tattoo, the process typically requires between three and six treatments.
What are the benefits of Laser Tattoo Removal?

Is Laser Tattoo Removal Right for Me?
Did you make a mistake and tattoo someone’s name on your arm then break up with that person several weeks later? Or are you interviewing for jobs where a tattoo may be a deterrent? If you answered yes to either of these questions or have simply outgrown the desire of having a tattoo, laser tattoo removal may be right for you.
How does Laser Tattoo Removal work?
With the Picosure® laser tattoo removal system, a hand piece with lasers is placed against the skin. Pulses of light target the ink and break down the pigment (ink). The process is not painful but Dr. Schwartz may apply a numbing cream if necessary to ease any tension. Depending on the size of the tattoos and the colors used, the number of treatments may vary. For those that require multiple treatments, each treatment is spread out to allow the healing to take place between each one. Those with very detailed tattoos may not see the tattoo erased but instead greatly diminished so that it is barely noticeable.
What is the recovery for Laser Tattoo Removal?
Once completed, we apply a petroleum ointment to keep the area moist and place a dressing over it so that it can begin to heal. It is very important to apply a prescription antibiotic ointment to the area as directed by Dr. Schwartz and protect the treated area from dirt. Also, wait 24 hours to shower and avoid swimming pools and hot tubs until the area has completely healed. If further treatments are necessary, they can begin as soon as the site has fully recovered.
